I have documented this family since Baby J was still inside his beautiful mama’s belly, and even had the pleasure of attending his birth at Columbia Memorial Hospital, so I was incredibly excited when they reached out to me with the idea of a secluded, outdoor fall family session that really captured the authenticity of their love for one another. I had a few ideas of locations but nothing seemed more perfect than Columbia County’s Adam’s Point Beach at Queechy Lake in beautiful Canaan, New York.
This moment; the late afternoon light, baby J touching his mama’s face – this moment with them hit my soul hardest. The reminder of the weight of my own babies in my arms. The rocking rhythm, the quiet lullabies, the soft touch of their little hands against my tired, ever aging face. We cling to these moments with such intensity, knowing that one day we will let them down and never pick them up again.
Our love as parents is constantly evolving and bending to form something new, and it’s so hard to remind and allow ourselves to let our love for one another take priority once in awhile, to allow it to grow, and not become routine and forgotten. There is no value that can be placed on even a few short-lived moments for us to be absorbed in that love, and what beauty it allows our children to see.
